Detailed Analysis

C10-16 Alcohols (also called decyl alcohol, lauryl alcohol, and related homologues) are saturated fatty alcohols produced by reduction of fatty acids or petrochemical routes. They are permitted in EU cosmetics without specific concentration limits under Regulation (EC) 1223/2009. Decyl alcohol (C10) and lauryl alcohol (C12) have been assessed by the SCCS and found safe for use in cosmetic products at current use levels. They are not sensitisers and have low acute toxicity.
